Vestal Ranch Wild Rice
Our 100 acres of wild rice is grown on the Vestal Ranch in the lush valley of Fall River where we have cultivated the land since the late 1800s. Believe it or not, wild rice is really not rice at all. In fact, it’s the seed of the Zizania palustris, a tall blooming water grass that prospers in shallow lakes, marshes and streams. A food steeped in the history of our land as the only cereal grain native to the North American continent. Native American tribes who called this staple food “Manoomin,” which means precious gem, were privy to the culinary benefits of this super food. Wild rice is highly nutritious, 100% natural, and is powerful in flavor. Chefs today use wild rice to enhance dishes from salads to desserts. Wild rice is an unexpected alternative for inventive chefs to create well-balanced, flavorful, and healthy recipes.
